ICA begins contest to find best commercials in Canadian history
By Adnews Staff
The Toronto-based Institute of Communications and Advertising has begun a contest aimed at the ad industry that will select the top 10 television commercials in Canadian history. The contest is part of the organization's activities promoting its 100th anniversary this year. The institute has compiled a list of 100 commercials that have received Gold prizes at the Cassies or Marketing awards during the last 50 years. The institute has placed these ads on the Web at <http://www.ica-ad.com/vote> where they can be viewed and voted upon by members of the industry who register to do so. Voting is currently open for commercials from the 50s, 60s and 70s. On Feb. 21, voting will begin for ads from the 1980s. Voting for the 1990s ads will open on March 7, while on March 21 voting will begin for commercials from 2000 onward. Voting will end on March 31. The top 10 ads and the commercial voted best overall will be announced on May 9. The Publicité Club de Montréal has begun a separate program to recognize the top French-language commercials.
