LOOK, UNIQUE BROADBAND SYSTEMS READY MOBILE VIDEO SERVICE

Toronto-based Look Communications and Unique Broadband Systems of Montreal have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly launch a mobile video service in Ontario and Quebec. The service, to be called the Mobile Broadband Video Network, will first operate in Toronto and Montreal, later expanding to cover the corridor from Windsor to Quebec City. The service will carry 80 channels of live video, 100 channels of digital audio and data channels. The receiver is a handheld devices the size of a personal digital assistant. Beta tests will begin in mid-2005, with the launch scheduled for early 2006. The service will offer live news, sports, entertainment and traffic reports, plus data access. The device will also track a user's schedule and store digital movies, music and images. "Mobile video is fast becoming a reality in North America," said Gerry McGoey, CEO of Look and Unique Broadband Systems. "The know-how and the intellectual property, combined with today's existing cellular subscriber base and video and audio users, will enable the Mobile Broadband Video Network to bring Canadian customers the mobility they have come to expect in their daily activities."
