CANON ADVANCES

U.S.-based Canon Inc. is launching an ad campaign for four new cameras based on the new Advanced Photo System. Three of the cameras will be available in the second half of the year. The first camera was launched in North America on March 1. There are three compact models and a larger SLR camera. Advertising will begin when all the cameras are on the market. In Canada ads will be created by Lackey Communications of Toronto. Media plans are still being finalized. The camera already in stores is called the ELPH. It has a 2X zoom lens and a stainless steel body. One of the other compacts has a 4X zoom lens while the third compact is single focal length autofocus model. All cameras feature technology unique to the Advanced Photo System such as drop-in loading. Users are able to choose one of three print formats while shooting. Canon is one of three companies that has announced plans for products using the Advanced Photo System. U.S.-based Eastman Kodak and Japan-based Fuji Photo Film are launching their products this month.
