COMPAQ CUTS PRICES ON NOTEBOOKS
By Adnews Staff
Compaq Computer Corp. of Houston is dropping prices to capture a bigger piece of the portable market. This week it slashed prices by up to 28% in the U.S. on its top-end LTE 5000 portable computers. Compaq lowered prices by the same amounts last month in Canada on its LTE, Contura and Elite notebook machines. Compaq also cut prices across North America on its corporate desktops and servers in February. The Wall Street Journal says Compaq plans to introduce a new mid-range notebook computer in the coming months and is going to to update its Contura line. Compaq Canada spokesman John Challinor said yesterday that the company isn't making any announcements yet about new products.
