SOFTWARE MAKER STARTS CANADIAN ADVERTISING

Sybase Inc. says it is doing well in Canada and expects to do even better with advertising. The California-based network software maker has booked nearly $200,000 worth of print advertising this year for its first Canadian ad campaign, which began last week. The company is running ads in daily newspapers and computer trade publications. Sybase says it is the sixth largest independent software company in the world. The eight-year-old Canadian operation has played an important role in the company's growth "and we want to advertise to continue to increase our profile in this market and reinforce our image with current and future customers," says Sybase Canada marketing official Jessica Steiger, in a release. However, the company hasn't gone whole hog and hired a Canadian agency to drum up business north of the border. The ads come from Sybase's U.S. shop, Dahlin Smith White in Salt Lake City. Sybase is a subsidiary of Powersoft Corporation.
