CAREER CAMPAIGN BEGINS IN P.E.I.

The Canada/Prince Edward Island Labour Market Development Agreement has begun a campaign intended to encourage young people to consider careers in the trades and health care sector. Called "Career Know How," the campaign will run for three years in P.E.I. The first 13-week run began earlier this fall. It consists of radio, television and newspaper advertising along with community and school presentations. The creative uses the tagline, "It's Not What You Think, It's What You Know." A Web site at <http://careerknowhow.pe.ca> and with a toll-free line have also been set up. Five skilled trade and ten health care occupations are being promoted in the campaign, including pharmacist, registered nurse, plumber, carpenter and construction electrician. The promotional materials include information on the required education for these careers, the expected rate of pay, job responsibilities and potential work environments. The advertising was created by Baker Consulting of Charlottetown.
