EAST SIDE MARIO'S HOLDS AD CONTEST

East Side Mario's has begun a contest called "Wanna be a director?" aimed at college and university students in Ontario and Alberta. Students are invited to create a 30-second video ad to attract customers to East Side Mario's during Liberty hours. This promotion involves half-price appetizers in the bar during the 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. to closing time periods. The competition will be judged by a panel made up of people from the chain's marketing department, Top Advertising, Accumark Promotions Group and a number of industry people including Kelly Gray, editor of Western Restaurant News and Bar & Beverage Magazine. The winner will receive a $5,000 bursary. Some of the ads will be emailed to approximately 500,000 Canadians. Additional prizes will include a $500 in East Side Mario's food, $250 in East Side Mario's food and 10 $25 gift certificates. The contest will run until Oct. 10. Public relations for East Side Mario's are handled by Thornley Fallis Communications of Toronto.
