MAYTAG REPAIRMAN GORDON JUMP TO RETIRE

Gordon Jump, the actor that has portrayed the repairman in Maytag Appliances advertising creative for over 10 years, is retiring, according to a report on Adage.com. Jump will be replaced by Hardy Rawls, who will make his debut in 2004. Advertising for Maytag is done by Leo Burnett. The repairman character has appeared in the appliance manufacturer's creative for 30 years. The role was originally played by Jesse White, who retired in 1988. The repairman, known as Ol' Lonely, was joined by a basset hound named Newton in the 1980s and by an apprentice in 2001.
