49TH MEDIA APPLIES TO SUBSTITUTE ADS ON U.S. STATIONS
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based 49th Media has submitted an application to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to begin substituting U.S. advertising with Canadian ads on five U.S. channels available in Canada. The company proposes to delete the U.S. advertising on channels including CNN, A&E and TBS and replace it with ads produced for and aimed at Canadian consumers. According to the company, 25% of the gross revenues created from the sales of these ads would be contributed to the Canadian Television Fund to support the creation of original Canadian programming. An additional 3% would be contributed to support French-language programming, aboriginal broadcasting and distance education.
