TRANSCONTINENTAL MEDIA BUYS MARITIME NEWSPAPERS

Transcontinental Media, a subsidiary of Montreal-based Transcontinental, purchased several newspapers and related assets in Atlantic Canada: daily newspaper the Amherst Daily News, weekly newspapers the Citizen and Sackville Tribune-Post and related publications from Cumberland Publishing of Nova Scotia and Sackville Tribune-Post of New Brunswick. Both companies are owned by Earl Gouchie, who is retiring. Transcontinental Media will also gain the printing and distribution operations of the newspapers. The financial details of the purchase are unknown.
