CRTC SUSPENDS WINBACK PROMOTIONS

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has temporarily ceased approving winback promotions by telephone companies while it undertakes a review. Winback promotions are used by telephone companies to regain customers who have switched to competitors. During these promotions, an incumbent company offers former customers incentives to switch back. The suspension of the approval process will remain in place until the review is concluded and a decision is issued. Incumbent telephone companies and competitors have 30 days to file submissions. The CRTC will also invite public comments on the appropriateness of continuing to approve winback promotions.
