CONSUMERS GAS DISHES OUT FINAL ACCOUNT

Consumers Gas finished its agency review this week by giving the media buying portion of its account to Media Buying Services. MBS was the winner a competition with five other Toronto agencies: Genesis Media, CNC Media Service and Berndt Advertising, all of Toronto, and VPM of Burlington, Ont. MBS was chosen because Consumers Gas liked the work that the agency has done for the Ontario Natural Gas Association, Consumers corporate communications director Brian Philcox told Adnews yesterday. Late last year, Consumers decided to split its account in four. Last month it chose agencies for the other three accounts. Weaver, Tanner & Miller of Kitchener, Ont. is handling the utility account while its Toronto subsidiary, WT&M Direct, works on the direct mail business. The retail account was given to Gee, Jeffery & Partners of Toronto. The gas company had been with now defunct United Business Communications for a year and a half. The total advertising budget is $3 million. The four accounts will be reviewed annually and the company will also hire agencies for other projects as they come up.
