By Adnews Staff
The Canadian Securities Administrators is sponsoring a contest called "Test Your Financial I.Q." aimed at youth 14 to 18 years of age. The CSA is an umbrella organization for the 13 provincial and territorial securities regulators in Canada. The contest, which will run until Jan. 31, 2003, it intended to encourage young people to learn more about investing. Entrants must submit a 500-word essay answering the question, "If you won the contest prize of $2,500 and decided to invest, which financial products might interest you most and why?" Participants are also required to answer the questions, "What is your financial goal," "How much time do you have to meet this financial goal," and "What type of risks are you willing to take?" Thirteen provincial prizes of $750 will be awarded along with the grand prize of $2,500. The contest is being promoted nationally, excluding Quebec, with a full-page ad in Teach magazine. The contest will also be promoted during the television show "Streets Cents," of which the CSA is a sponsor, and on the show's Web site. The contest is also being advertised with a bilingual poster. The advertising materials were created by the Quebec Securities Commission's agency Tam-Tam.
