COLUMBIA BREWERY CREATES NEW PAINTED LABEL FOR KOKANEE GOLD

The Columbia Brewery of Creston, BC is replacing the paper labels on its Kokanee Gold beer bottles with a new painted label. Kokanee Gold is an amber lager beer sold in western Canada. The label is drawn in a washable ink that can be removed so the bottle can be re-used. The label design includes an image of a white mountain peak with the name Kokanee in white lettering and word Gold in gold lettering. The brewery used Beakbane Marketing of Toronto to update the label design, which was previously orange and gold in colour. The new label will be accompanied by new in-store materials and outdoor and print advertising by Grip Ltd. of Toronto. A sampling program is also planned for the summer months. Columbia Brewery is a wholly owned subsidiary of Labatt Breweries of Canada. Its other brands include Kokanee, Kootenay True Ale, Kootenay Mountain Ale and Kootenay Black Lager. There are no plans at this time to replace the paper labels on the brewer's other brands, according to Columbia Brewery's communications manager Larina Dyck. In May Labatt began using similar ink labels on bottles of its Labatt 50 brand in Ontario.
