WESTJET BEGINS RIDICULOUS FARES PROMOTION
By Adnews Staff
Calgary-based WestJet will offer what it calls a "ridiculous $3" one way fare for travel between certain locations on June 30. However, travellers will pay the regular taxes and fees for travel on the flights. According to the airline, the offer is designed to inform the public of the taxes and fees associated with air travel. The $3 one way fare will apply to flights between Calgary and Edmonton and between Hamilton and Ottawa. With taxes and fees a Calgary/Edmonton return ticket will be $89.27, while a Hamilton/Ottawa return ticket will cost $81.78. "We continue to hear from our guests their frustration over the ridiculous rise in taxes and fees associated with air travel," said Bill Lamberton, vice-president of marketing for WestJet. "By offering this ridiculous $3 one way fare, we want to clearly show the impact these extra charges have on the wallets of Canadians." Earlier this year the airline declared Feb. 20 to be Prime Minister's Day and offered free travel to any customer who shared the first and last names of any Canadian prime minister. On Oct. 31 customers with the last names "Black," "Orange" or "Jack" received free travel. Customers whose birthdays fell on Halloween also travelled free on that day.
