BREWERS TAKE TOP HONORS AT 2001 BESSIES

Canada's Molson Breweries and Labatt Breweries of Canada won the top honors at the 2001 Bessies Awards on Thursday night. Molson and its agency Bensimon Byrne D'Arcy took home the Best of Show Single as well as a Gold Spot Single for "The Rant." Meanwhile, Labatt and its agency Palmer Jarvis DDB Downtown took home the Best of Show Campaign and a Gold Spot Campaign for its Bud Light "Attic Launcher", "Vikings" and "Figure Skating" spots. "Vikings" and "Figure Skating," as well as PJ DDB's "Dog Tired" spot for client Clorox Company of Canada also took home Gold Spots in the Single category. Other Gold Spot winners included: Zig Inc. for its "Cam's Breast Exam" commercial for the Breast Cancer Society of Canada; Bryant, Fulton & Shee for its "German Subtitles" single for the Vancouver International Film Festival; Roche Macaulay & Partners for its "Nero Little Lover" spot for Ikea Germany; Taxi Advertising & Design for its Molson Canada "Wheelchair" commercial; Leo Burnett for its "Kiss" single for Hallmark Canada; and J. Walter Thompson, which took home two Gold Spot Single awards for its "Golfer" spot for client Pfizer Canada and for its "Puppy" spot for client Kraft Canada. Additional winners in the Gold Spot Campaign category included Bryant, Fulton & Shee for its work for the Vancouver International Film Festival and Roche Macaulay & Partners Ikea Germany campaign.
