TRANSCONTINENTAL, GLOBE INTERACTIVE BUILD FRENCH LANGUAGE INVESTMENT WEB SITE

Montreal-based publisher Transcontinental Publications Inc. and The Globe and Mail's Globe Interactive division are teaming up to create a financial portal for French-speaking investors. The portal will be built at <http://www.lesaffaires.com>, replacing the news site currently operating there. It will also include tools found on the Globeinvestor.com and Globefund.com Web sites. Promotion of the new site will occur in a variety of Transcontinental's economic and financial publications including Revue Commerce, Magazine PME, Affaires Plus and Finance et Affaires. According to Jocelyn Poirier, vice president of strategic development and new media at Transcontinental, the company will also attempt to get its current advertisers in those publications to advertise on the new site as well. Currently the company is talking with a number of advertising agencies to determine who will handle advertising for its portals. A final decision is expected to be made by the beginning of January. Users will have access to the site beginning in February. Poirier said Transcontinental will also launch a second French-language and a third English-language site in the upcoming months.
