SHIFT CHANGES PLANS

Shift is changing course. The Toronto-based magazine is temporarily discontinuing its U.S. and international plans, Andrew Heintzman, Shift's publisher, said in a statement, citing financial difficulties as the reason. The magazine had set a deadline of October 31 to find a partner south of the border and secure financing. Unable to meet that deadline, Shift will now focus on its Canadian business while it searches for a partner closer to home. Employees at Shift, who bought the magazine from its previous owner Normal Networks, have been laid off, however, its "business as usual" Heintzman said. The magazine's current October issue is on newsstands now and the November issue is expected to be out by next week. Shift is published ten times a year and has a circulation of 70,000 in Canada and 80,000 internationally.
