MOLSON LAUNCHES MILLION-DOLLAR SHOOTOUT

Toronto-based Molson Breweries went on court with its sponsorship of the Toronto Raptors NBA team last week. The beer maker launched its "Shoot for a Mil" contest in which five Ontario residents will have a chance to shoot some hoop for $1,000,000. Lucky scratch 'n' win coupons in cases of Miller Genuine Draft beer are entry tickets to the competition. Contestants are being selected through radio and TV contests. Five finalists will make it to a shootout at a Raptors game in January. Each person will try to make three different basketball shots: a free throw, a three point shot and a long shot from half-court. Whoever scores on all three walks away a millionaire. In case of a tie, the pot is split. Those who don't make the three shots still get to enter a draw for a chance to take nine guests to a Raptors game in Houston in February. Beer purchasers can also win instant prizes with the scratch 'n' win tickets including jackets and tank tops bearing the logos of Miller Genuine Draft and the Toronto Raptors . Molson has also formed the MGD Million Dollar Patrol, a team of Ontario bsketball Association instructors that will tour community colleges and universities in Ontario, giving demonstrations and clinics. TV and radio advertising for the contest began last week. It was created by MGA Advertising of Toronto. Langdon Starr of Toronto is doing public relations.
