The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has approved an application for a new rock music FM radio station. The application was filed by John Write, on behalf of a company to be incorporated, for the 105.7 FM frequency in the Kingston, Ontario market. The new rock format station joins four existing radio stations in the Kingston area including an oldies station, a country music station and two adult contemporary stations. The new station is expected to target an audience between 18 and 44 years of age offering a new format not currently provided by the area's four existing stations. Two additional applications were submitted for the 105.7 frequency. Write was awarded the licence over Chum Limited, which operates the area's two adult contemporary stations CKLC and CFLY-FM and McColman Media Inc., on behalf of a company to be incorporated.
