YOUTH CULTURE WATCHING FOR VERVE AND FUEL

Toronto-based Youth Culture In-school Communications is phasing out its Bang and Watch magazines to replace them with two new publications. Verve and Fuel made their debuts in conjunction with the back-to-school season. The two new magazines are positioned along genders lines rather than age group, as was the case with the defunct publications. Previously Youth Culture targeted 12- to 13-year-olds with Bang and 14- to 17-year-olds with Watch. The new magazines will both target a 12- to-17-year-old age group, but Fuel will target boys while Verve targets girls. The national magazines will be distributed in schools in English Canada only. Three issues of each will be published in the fall and three in the spring. Verve will have a circulation of 150,000, all distributed in schools. Fuel will have a circulation of 100,000, with 30,000 copies distributed in Music World stores and the remainder distributed in schools.
