UN INTENDS TO CHANGE ATTITUDES OF CANADIANS

A new advertising campaign from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is aiming to change the attitudes of Canadians and make them more tolerant to refugees, a report in the National Post said. Television and print creative from Montreal-based Armada was unveiled Tuesday in Montreal. The ads are designed to differentiate between genuine refugees who flee their country for fear of violence and persecution and illegal migrants such as the 590 Chinese migrants who arrived off the coast of BC last summer hidden in fishing trawlers. In addition to the ads, which the report said were sent out to Canadian newspapers and television stations as public service announcements, an information kit for teachers is also being put together.
