TELUS CONSOLIDATES BRANDING WITH OMNICOM GROUP
By Adnews Staff
Burnaby, BC-based telecommunications company Telus has awarded its corporate branding and reputation management agency-of-record title to a group of companies within the Omnicom Group. The winning AOR group will rely to its experience in strategy development, advertising planning and execution and public relations to further develop Telus' national brand and reputation plan. The group is comprised of Lanyon Phillips Communications of Vancouver, BBDO of Toronto, PNMD Communications of Montreal, Nolin Branding & Design of Montreal and Toronto and GPC Canada. Lanyon Phillips will act as lead agency with PNMD acting as agency-of-record in Quebec. The Omnicom Group was selected following a review of five competitive proposals. According to Telus, because of the nature of the assignment and the range of responsibilities included in it, the company expected to receive proposals for the account from a group of companies and not individual agencies. Previously corporate brand and reputation management responsibilities were handled by a number of independent agencies.
In other Lanyon Phillips Communications news, the agency has recently been drafted by the Vancouver Grizzlies. LPC was chosen as the team's new advertising agency following a review that included nine local agencies. Chuck Phillips, president and chief executive of Lanyon Phillips, said his agency's brand building and ad assignment is for the upcoming 2000/2001 basketball season, which begins October 31. The agency's first project for the Grizzlies will be a multi-media campaign to stimulate interest in the upcoming season. Advertising, expected to break late-September, early October, will focus on the team's players, the Grizzlies' new ownership and the franchises' commitment to winning, Phillips said.
