NINTENDO GIVES SNEAK PEAK OF NEW GAME CONSOLES

Nintendo gave the world a sneak peak of its new game consoles at the Spaceworld Trade show in Tokyo last week when it unveiled its new Nintendo GameCube console and portable Nintendo Game Boy Advance machine. Both systems are scheduled to launch in Japan first and then roll out in North America and Europe. The GameCube is the next in line following Nintendo's N64 game console. The GameCube features a compact transportable housing unit, a central processor, a graphic co-processor and 40 MB of memory. Games will come on an 8 cm disk and accessories available for the console will include a 56K modem and wireless controllers. The Game Boy Advance is Nintendo's next handheld device following in the steps of Nintendo's Game Boy and Game Boy Colour systems. The Game Boy Advance features a 50% larger screen and allows up to four machines to be linked together. While both machines can operated independently, they can also be connected and like the GameCube, the Game Boy Advance also allows players to connect to the Internet through a modem accessory. Nintendo's Game Boy Advance will be available in Japan in March 2001 and in North America and Europe in July while the new GameCube will launch in Japan in July 2001 and in North America in October 2001. Public relations for Vancouver-based Nintendo Of Canada Ltd. is handled by GCI Group of Toronto.
