CANADIAN TIRE GOES BACK IN TIME

Canadian Tire Corporation of Toronto is flashing back to the 1960s and 70s in its new "Retro Days" promotion that kicked off in Toronto on Monday. "Retro Days" initially runs for two weeks and then continues every Tuesday and Thursday until the end of the August. The promotion offers customers "flashback pricing" on select items, reminiscent of what customers would have paid for the items 30-40 years ago. Two products will be unveiled each day featuring the "flashback pricing." For example, Monday's items included a four pack of double A batteries for $0.99 and a four pack of light bulbs for $0.39. The promotion, running at all 53 Greater Toronto Area Canadian Tire stores, is being supported with an in-store consumer contest, POS materials including ballots and ballot boxes and radio and print advertising in the Toronto market. Canadian Tire also held a launch event on Monday in Toronto kicking off the "Retro Days" promotion. The event featured a PT Cruiser decorated in psychedelic colors, Go-Go dancers, music from the 60s and 70s and a retro crew handing out a surprise free product.
