Mackenzie Financial Corporation of Toronto has appointed Environics Communications its public relations agency-of-record. The appointment of the Toronto agency is the conclusion to a formal search that began in April. Environics had been shortlisted for the account with GCI Group, Hill & Knowlton Canada, Lute & Company and Strategic Objectives. Previously public relations for Mackenzie was handled in-house. Phil Cunningham, president, Mackenzie Financial Services said the company was impressed with Environics' experience in financial services marketing and its knowledge of the mutual fund industry. "Mackenzie has a great story and we're stepping up our communications efforts to tell it," he said in a release. Environics will immediately begin developing a more aggressive public relations program for the investment management and financial services corporation, Bruce MacLellan, Environics president said. The program will look to both strengthen Mackenzie's internal efforts as well as raise awareness of its existing and upcoming initiatives. The account is estimated at $200,000.
