APPLE REVAMPS MARKETING
By Adnews Staff
Apple Computer Inc.'s world marketing chief Daniel Eilers resigned last week because the company is restructuring its marketing management. With the de-centralization of marketing, Eilers says he has nothing to do. Beginning next month Apple's marketing and sales will be handled by its three geographic units: the Americas, led by Jim Buckley; Europe, led by Marco Landi, and Asia, led by John Floisand. In the third quarter ending Sept. 30, Apple jumped past International Business Machines Corp. and reclaimed the No. 2 position in total personal computer sales worldwide. However, there was a price attached to this move up in the rankings; the computer maker had to cut its prices. As a result it had to adopt a lower-cost management structure.
