PJ DDB SWIMMING WITH THE CROCODILES

The Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre has named the Vancouver office of Palmer Jarvis DDB its agency-of-record for 2000. The appointment follows an informal review the Centre held that included two additional unnamed agencies pitching for the business. PJ DDB won the account in mid-February and has since completed its first assignment for the Centre, a communications campaign focusing on an exhibit of golden saltwater crocodiles. The crocodiles are temporarily being housed at the Vancouver Aquarium while their permanent home at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas is being completed. The communications campaign includes radio and newspaper ads, exterior bus posters and "wild postings" running in the downtown Vancouver area. Cosmo Campbell, senior art director, explained that the creative takes an unconventional and humorous approach that captures the dangerous natures of the crocodiles as well as their endangered status. One ad features a pair of crocodile boots with the line "See them live at the Aquarium." The campaign runs until the end of April when the crocodiles are expected to be moved to their new home.
