FORD ADDS LAND ROVER BRAND TO PREMIER AUTOMOTIVE GROUP

Ford Motor Company of Dearborn, Michigan is buying the Land Rover unit from the BMW Group of Munich, Germany. The deal, subject to BMW and Ford reaching a definitive agreement and regulatory approval, is expected to be complete in the second quarter of the year. The entire line of Land Rover vehicles including Range Rover, Discovery, Freelander and Defender are included in the sale, as well as assembly and engineering facilities. Not included is Land Rover's passenger car business. BMW is currently negotiating the sale of the Rover car unit to Alchemy Partners, a private investment group. Ford plans on adding the Land Rover line to its Premier Automotive Group which includes the Lincoln, Volvo, Jaguar and Aston Martin brands.
