RENO-DEPOT BUILDING NEW HOME IMPROVEMENT BOX IN ONTARIO

Montreal-based Reno-Depot Inc., the Canadian division of France's Castorama Group, has announced plans to introduce its home improvement concept under the Building Box banner to the Ontario market. Reno-Depot announced it will invest $350 million over the next four years to open 15 home improvement/warehouse stores in Ontario, the first two opening in Scarborough and Brampton in the Fall of 2000. According to Reno-Depot, The Building Box chain will offer 30 per cent more product selection than the current offerings of competitors such as Home Depot. Advertising from BBDO Canada of Toronto will support the chain and PR will be managed by Cohn & Wolfe of Toronto. The Building Box will target Do-It-Yourselfers, professional contractors and women through its ability to offer more product selection including home decor. The Building Box will initially focus on the Ontario market with plans to expand nationally.
