TTC MOVES ADVERTISING CONTRACT FROM T.O. TO BIG APPLE

The Toronto Transit Commission has announced its transit advertising rights have been awarded to TDI of New York. The five year agreement includes a $74.7 million guaranteed payment. Toronto-based Urban Outdoor Trans AD previously represented TTC advertising for the past eight years. Its current five year contract, which expires at the end of the year, guaranteed payments of $38.5 million. "The transit advertising business is no longer viable when payments to the transit authority get this large," Ron Hutchinson, president Urban Outdoor Trans Ad explained. "Clearly the big winner in all of this is the TTC." Despite the loss of the TTC advertising contract, Urban Outdoor will continue to operate transit advertising in Greater Toronto as well as, Halifax, Winnipeg, Windsor, and Hamilton, Ontario. In addition, Urban Outdoor will continue operating its airport advertising business at Terminal 3 of Lester B. Pearson Airport, Subway Online, a digital network in the TTC system and the digital network at BC Place in Vancouver.
