7-ELEVEN NOW SELLING FIDO PHONES
By Adnews Staff
In a new agreement between Microcell Solutions Inc. of Montreal and 7-Eleven Canada, Inc. of Vancouver, 7-Eleven will now sell wireless phones 24 hours a day, becoming the first retailer in Canada to do so. The recently-announced agreement will result in over 250 7-Eleven locations in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario selling Microcell's Fidomatic Kits. Microcell is a national provider of personal communication services under the Fido brand name. The Fidomatic Kit consists of a Mitsubishi G75 PCS handset and a $50 airtime voucher. 7-Eleven stores first began selling Fidomatic airtime cards in December of last year. Microcell and 7-Eleven launched an eight week trial earlier this year of handset sales at 40 locations across the country, the positive results of which encouraged both companies to expand the handset sales to over 250 locations. The availability of the handsets will be promoted using in-store point-of-purchase materials, window signs and large outdoor banners created by The Art Department of Burnaby, British Columbia. The Fidomatic service was launched one year ago by Microcell Solutions, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Microcell Telecommunications. Microcell Solutions and its advertising agency BOS were recently recognized at the 99 Cassies awards for its Fido advertising, picking up two gold awards in the general services category and best launch of a new product or service category.
