By Adnews Staff
Wendy's International Inc. of Dublin, Ohio has announced it has closed its seven company operated restaurants in the United Kingdom as part of its strategy to improve profitability and return on capital. According to the company, the "underperforming units" were primarily located in the central London area. The company said the closings were due to high real estate and operating costs. Forty franchised locations in the Europe/Middle East region were not affected by this announcement and will be supported from the Company's corporate headquarters in Ohio. Wendy's International operates two brands, Wendy's and Tim Hortons. Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers was founded in 1969 and is the third-largest quick-serve hamburger restaurant chain in the United States, Canada and other international markets. Tim Hortons was founded in 1964 and is the largest coffee and baked goods restaurant chain in Canada.
