NetStar Communications Inc. has announced several new appointments including the appointment of Ken Murphy to the position of president of Discovery Channel. NetStar owns Discovery, The Sports Network and Le Reseau des Sports. Murphy has been with NetStar since it was founded in 1984. Most recently he was vice president, production and administration for Discovery. He succeeds Trina McQueen, who joined CTV Inc. as executive vice president, earlier this month. In related appointments, Meg Pinto is promoted to senior vice president, sales and marketing, assuming responsibility for cable affiliate negotiations and on-air promotions. Previously, Pinto was vice president, sales and marketing. Paul Lewis is promoted to vice president, programming, responsible for programming and the overall schedule for the network. He was previously executive producer, in-house productions. John Panikkar is promoted to vice president, production. Previously, he was director, programming. In his new role, Panikkar will be responsible for the development and leadership for Exploration Production Inc., Discovery's independent production company
