SMALL GROCERS LEARNING
By Adnews Staff
"It is apparent that independent supermarkets are accepting, and in many ways, winning the challenge of increasing store competition," John Scott, president of the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers, says in a release. Independent grocers are turning to the same systems used by major chains, such as category management and continuous replenishment, or partnerships between stores, distributors and manufacturers. The Federation is holding its 33rd annual Grocery Showcase Canada conference in Toronto from Oct. 22 to 24. The event will provide a forum for the issues facing independent supermarket owners today, and a trade show floor will be filled by more than 600 grocery manufacturers and distributors.
