PASSAGE: DAVID OGILVY

David Ogilvy has passed away at his home in Touffou, France after a long illness. The advertising legend founded his New York-based advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide in 1948 as Hewitt, Ogilvy, Benson & Mather. In 1953 its name changed to Ogilvy, Benson & Mather and to Ogilvy & Mather International in 1965 following Ogilvy's merger with Mather & Crowther of London. In the mid-eighties the agency became known as Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide. Ogilvy has lived full-time in Touffou since retiring as chairman of in 1973. He was 88 years old.
