SUNOCO AND OPG LAUNCH PILOT PROJECT
By Adnews Staff
Sunoco Inc. of Toronto and OPG Ontario Power Generation Inc. have announced an environmental initiative to help reduce smog in Southwestern Ontario. The initiative involves a pilot project by Sunoco during which it will mix a fuel additive called VEKTRON 336A to the gasolines at its service stations across Ontario. The pilot project will run for two years during the summer seasons. According to the company, the additive reduces automobile nitrogen oxide emissions which contribute to smog. OPG, formerly part of Ontario Hydro, will invest with Sunoco to add VEKTRON to Sunoco's gasolines and will claim emission reduction credits for the nitrogen oxide reductions. OPG is one of the five largest electricity generators on the continent. Sunoco is a subsidiary of Suncor Energy of Calgary.
