TTC REFER POLICE UNION POSTER TO ASC
By Adnews Staff
Toronto's Police Union says it has no intention of apologizing for putting up a subway poster showing Latino gang members, a Toronto Star article reported yesterday. According to the police association president quoted in the article, the poster, which has been running for three weeks and was scheduled to come down yesterday, was not meant to be offensive to Toronto Hispanics and Latin Americans. The poster was sponsored by the police union, asking people to consider the issue of crime when they vote on June 3 in the provincial election. The TTC is going to refer the poster to the Toronto-based Advertising Standards Council which is the advertising industry's self-regulatory body that receives and reacts to consumer complaints.
