ATHLETES TO MOOTIVATE ONTARIO STUDENTS

A tour began late last week which will see a group of Canadian athletes visit 50 schools across Ontario to deliver a message of the value of physical activity, nutrition, self-esteem and the meaning of "personal best". This event, called "The Mootiv8ional Speakers Tour", is being sponsored by The Dairy Farmers of Canada and runs until June 15. The tour is part of the larger Royal Bank Activ8 physical activity school program which is sponsored by the Royal Bank Financial Group. Activ8 is the flagship program of The Foundation for Active Healthy Kids, a national charitable organization. The program is a physical activity recognition and fund-raising program for Ontario students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. Its aim is to make physical activity fun and rewarding. Speakers on the current tour will include past and current national, provincial, Paralympic and Special Olympic athletes. The 50 schools they will visit were selected in a draw of schools registered for the program. This year the Activ8 program will involve over 1300 schools and 350,000 students. National roll-out of the program is planned for September. Associate sponsors of the program include the Trillium Foundation and Nike P.L.A.Y.
