CHAPTERS PURCHASES B&N COLLEGE BOOKSTORES

Chapters Inc. of Toronto has announced the company has purchased a controlling interest in the Canadian division of Barnes & Noble College Bookstores Inc. The new company will be called Chapters Canadian University Bookstore Ltd., (CCUBL). CCUBL was first formed in September 1997 and by March 1998 had negotiated its first contract to manage the McGill University Bookstore in Montreal. Barnes & Nobel currently manages three college bookstores in Canada including: Niagara College in Welland, Niagara College in Niagara-on-the-Lake and Loyalist College in Belleville. The purchase by Chapters continues the company's commitment to its Canadian university bookstore division. Chapters Inc. is a Canadian company formed by the 1995 merge of Coles and SmithBooks. Chapters operates bookstores across Canada and sells books and book-related products, as well as audio books, music, educational and entertainment software on CD-ROM.
