SEARS CANADA OPENS COMBINATION STORE

Sears Canada of Toronto has opened a new chain of stores offering a combination of furniture and appliances. The stores are devoted exclusively to furniture, rugs, accent-decor items and major home appliances. This Fall the second combination store to open in Calgary will open its doors inside the Brentwood Shopping Centre. Furniture from its department store at Marlborough Shoppers Mall will be moved and that store renovated to include an assortment of fashion apparel and soft-home fashions. The new combination store, will be promoted using radio, pre-print and newspaper advertising prior to the grand opening of the store. The pre-print and newspaper ads were created in-house by Sears. Radio advertising for Sears Canada is done by Ogilvy & Mather of Toronto. The Brentwood store is one of the 30 furniture stores Sears Canada plans to open for business by the end of the year. Of the 30 stores planned to open, 23 will include appliances.
