POWERS STRUGGLE OVER NAME
By Adnews Staff
The board of directors of CKDX-FM/POWER 88.5 have decided to bring legal action against Rogers Broadcasting, the new owners of Toronto radio station frequency 92.5, formerly owned and operated by Rawlco Communications and known as CISS 92.5. Earlier this month, Rogers assumed control of 92.5 and immediately changed the on-air format from country music to "All Hits" and changed their on-air reference name to POWER 92. CKDX-FM states in a release that they have used the name POWER in the Toronto market for almost two years, have spent money in promotion and branding and considers the use of the name POWER by Rogers to be "unlawful and a blatant disregard for fair business practices." CKDX-FM states it will take whatever measures are necessary to protect its name and investment.
