CANADIAN SCHOOLS GET POINT OF VIEW
By Adnews Staff
MapConnections Inc. of Waterloo, Ont. has developed and introduced a point of view to Canadian high schools. The software company has launched a program called Point of View, an educational resource that enables students to build multimedia databases that showcase their community life through the Internet. The system combines mapping technology, turnkey solutions, the Internet and a curriculum support program. However, most students won't be doing their work in a lab. They will be in their community, wading in swamps testing water quality and visiting local sites and recording facts about their community's heritage and architectural treasures. The program is set with six different teaching modules, each with detailed lesson plans. Depending on the particular module being used, the students go out into their communities to collect the relevant information. The data is then evaluated and analyzed, with everything being put into the specialized database map. Eleven schools in Ontario are participating in the first phase of the Point of View introduction. Promotion of the program is being done through a PR campaign and direct mail component. A national roll out of the program is planned for spring. A campaign to advertise the program is also being planned for that time. Lomberg Network of Toronto is handling PR and the direct mail campaign for MapConnections.
