HAIR COLOR IS A GROWING MARKET
By Adnews Staff
The U.S. hair care market is generally large and saturated, but some manufacturers have seen growth in developing and promoting niche products in the 90s, according to a study by U.S.-based Datamonitor. Color shampoo and color styling mousse enjoyed a growth rate of almost 70% in 1991 and last year sales were still growing significantly, although at a slower rate approaching 30%. The annual growth rate for conditioners in the period 1990-94 was almost triple that of shampoo, driven by new products such as intensive and leave-in conditioners. Conditioner sales went up 9.3% a year while shampoo sales rose 3.7%. The market average for growth was 4.2%.
