ALTAVISTA ENHANCES SITE

AltaVista Canada of Edmonton is celebrating its first year in business with the launch of two new specialty indexes for Canadian Internet users. The two indexes are: the Canadian News Index and the Canadian Government Index. The Canadian News Index searches over 300 Canadian news sources daily and provides news updates on an hourly basis. The Canadian Government Index contains over a million Web pages from the federal and provincial government Web sites, providing users with a single source for government-related information. AltaVista maintains an index of over 17 million Canadian Web pages. The bilingual search engine gives users access to up to 90% of Canadian Web pages. AltaVista was launched last January as a result of an agreement between TELUS Advertising Services of Edmonton and U.S.-based AltaVista Search Service, which is owned by Compaq Computer Corp. of Houston, Texas.
