IBM ADDS TO APTIVA AND THINKPAD LINES

U.S.-based International Business Machines Corp. has expanded its line of Aptiva E and ThinkPad i lines of computers. Available in North America this week, there are 10 new Aptiva desktop computers, five in English and five in French. Features of the new machines include the latest processors from Intel Corp. and AMD, Internet-ready offerings such as 56 Kbps modems, two preloaded browsers and a trial Internet subscription offer with iSTAR, a range of productivity, protection and education software, as well as added design features such as the IBM Rapid Access Keyboard and ScrollPoint Mouse. There are two new ThinkPad i notebook computers. They feature 300 MHz Intel processors, up to 4.3 gigabyte hard drives, up to 13.3-inch color monitors and external CD controls for playing music even when the unit is closed. The new machines will be promoted using daily newspaper ads created by Ogilvy & Mather of Toronto.
