MCDONALD'S BLUNDERS BIG MAC PROMO
By Adnews Staff
McDonald's restaurants in the U.K. found itself in hot water last week after a Big Mac promotion went too well. The restaurant chain was offering a buy one get one free promotion for Big Mac, but some restaurants ran into problems when they experienced eight times the usual demand for the burger. Several were forced to close due to overcrowding and many customers were turned away when Big Macs ran out. Police had to be called to some locations to control crowds. The promotion was supported with TV ads, which have since been stopped, although the promotion will continue to run until Jan. 10. McDonald's has also launched full-page ads in national and regional newspapers to apologize for the confusion. Next week, the fast-food chain will offer half-price cheeseburgers for the rest of the year. The promotions are part of McDonald's 25 U.K. anniversary celebration which is Oct. 1.
