TOURIST SPENDING UP IN CANADA
By Adnews Staff
Reports released today from the National Tourism Indicator estimates tourism spending in Canada has reached more than $37.7 billion in the first nine months of 1998. That's an increase of more than 6% for the same period in 1997. And that's not all that's rising. Canadians vacationing within Canada spent nearly $26 billion, resulting in an increase of 5.3%, whereas foreign spending jumped 10.4% to $11.7 billion. Along with the spending, the report released figures on tourism employment, stating air transportation and vehicle rental and leasing were the strongest sectors to increase. The Canadian Tourism Commission says the Canadian economy continues to benefit from the increased tourism spending from both domestic and international tourists.
