MASTERCARD FEATURES STOJKO AND ORR IN TV AD

Toronto-based MasterCard Canada is using two skating legends in its latest TV ad that began this week. The ad features Olympic silver medalist Elvis Stojko and NHL Hall-of-Famer Bobby Orr. In the ad, Stojko is giving Orr a figure skating lesson. The 30-second spot opens with a long-range shot of two skaters practicing in an old run-down arena with a voice over saying "One hour figure skating lesson . . . $55. A silhouette of Orr and Stojko skating together is followed by a silhouette of Stojko demonstrating a spin, with a voice over saying "black spandex ensemble . . . $175. A sequence of shots in silhouette capture Stojko's figure skating skills, then out of the silhouette Stojko appears for the first time. After completing a spin, Stojko motions for his student to give it a try. A close-up of Orr is then shown with the voice over saying "Cleaning, filling and caps . . . $850. In the next shot, Orr attempts his own spin, while Stojko expresses his approval. Orr then stumbles at the completion of his spin. The voice over says "Discovering you Artistic Side . . . Priceless." The spot ends with Stojko and Orr laughing together on the bleachers. The theme line in the ad is "There are some things money can't buy, for everything else, there's MasterCard." The commercial was created by McCann-Erickson Worldwide of New York.
