HOUSES ARE BEST INVESTMENT CHOICE

Buying a home is the number one investment choice for Canadians because it is the most secure, according to a study done by the Angus Reid Group of Toronto. Forty-nine per cent of respondents said owning a home offers the best security over the next five years, while 31% chose mutual funds and stocks and 1% believe foreign currency investing is the best security. People are more confident now than there were three years ago about owning a home as an investment, and 96% believe owning a home is much more than just a place to live or have a roof over your head. Eighty-seven per cent said owning a home provides a greater sense of community, 92% said they are proud of their home and like showing it off and 81% believe owning a home is a sign of achievement and success. Canadians are also cautious investors. Ninety-four per cent of the respondents said they made the decision to buy a home based on their financial readiness, 86% were influenced by mortgage rates and 63% said the stability of the Canadian economy encouraged them to buy a home. The study was commissioned by RE/MAX of Mississauga, Ont.
